This home was conceived through an approach that was similar to Lume’s “Headquarters” building, at the request of the home owners. The low-horizontal building form and materials were chosen to allow the dwelling to nestle into the treed landform, below the horizon line.

Adopting an understated approach to design and material selection, this house is carefully proportioned, neatly detailed and lightly finished. The concrete floors provide thermal mass, absorbing passive solar energy. Window and door placement allows for natural cooling through cross-ventilation and provides appropriate light levels, avoiding the need for artificial lighting in the house during the day.
